The 2008 Ronald Reagan Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ with Oliver North:

We are very pleased and excited to announce that the 2008 Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ with our special guest speaker, Lt. Col. Oliver North will be held on Thursday, October 16th, 2008.

Oliver L. North is a combat decorated marine, a #1 best-selling author, the founder of a small business, an inventor with three U.S. patents, a syndicated columnist, and the host of War Stories on the Fox News Channel. Yet, he claims his most important accomplishment is to be “the husband of one, the father of four and the grandfather of eleven.”

North was born in San Antonio, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and served 22 years as a U.S. Marine. His awards for service in combat include the silver star, the bronze star for valor and two purple hearts for wounds in combat.

Assigned to the National Security Council Staff in the Reagan administration, Lieutenant Colonel North was the United States government’s counter-terrorism coordinator from 1983-1986. He was involved in planning the rescue of 804 medical students on the Island of Grenada and played a major role in the daring capture of the hijackers of the cruise ship Achille Lauro. After helping plan the U.S. raid on Muammar Qaddafi’s terrorist bases in Libya, North was targeted for assassination by Abu Nidal, the infamous terrorist found dead in Baghdad in August, 2002. President Ronald Reagan described him as “an American hero.”

Since 2001, North has been the host of War Stories — the award-winning military documentary series on Fox News Channel. He has also authored eleven books — all of them New York Times bestsellers. His next book, American Heroes, based on his extensive coverage of U.S. military units engaged in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines will be published in April 2008.

North is a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the NRA board of directors. He is also the founder of Freedom Alliance, a foundation that provides college scholarships for the sons and daughters of service members killed in action.

These two fundraisers are how your Alachua County Republican Party raises money to support Republican causes and activities in our community.  In 2005 we out-fundraised the local Democratic Party for the first time in our history, and in 2006, we increased that margin.  From July of 2006 to July of 2007, we beat the voter registration targets assigned to us by The Republican Party of Florida.  In 2006, our Republican candidate for House District 22 won the Alachua County portion of his district, and the Republican candidate for House District 11 did the same.  We helped to elect a Republican Senator to Senate District 14 for the first time, and our Republican Governor, Charlie Crist, did better in Alachua County than Jeb Bush did as a popular incumbent.

These events allow us raise the money that we need to keep up the work that we do, and they allow us to showcase who we are and what we believe in.

Please support your Alachua County Republican Party and have some fun at the same time, and join us at the Lincoln - King Dinner and the Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ.

With Sean Hannity A Wonderful Success

The 2007 Ronald Reagan Black Tie and Blue Jeans BBQ was a wonderful success.

About 1100 people attended this wonderful event, heard Sean Hannity speak and then to watch him as he broadcast Hannity and Colmes, live, from Canterbury Equestrian Showplace.

David's Real Pit BBQ did an outstanding job supplying a wonderful dinner, and our volunteers worked hard to put on a professional and exciting event.

Thank you to all of those that worked hard to help us put on such an exciting and once in a lifetime event.

-2nd Annual Lincoln - King Dinner A Wonderful Success

Our second annual Abraham Lincoln - Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner was a great success.

Chairwoman Frances Rice of the National Black Republican Association gave a compelling speech highlighting the Republican Party's extraordinary history on civil rights and equality and opportunity.

Attorney General McCollum talked about innovative law enforcement programs and protecting children from preditors (an issue very important to him.

We had great attendance, and we were particularly pleased to be joined by a group of fine, young men from the Reichert House.

Chairwoman Rice has lead the National Black Republican Association with distinction and has, truly, put that organization at the front and center of the Republican Party.

Bill McCollum, Jr. is the current Attorney General of Florida and a former Republican Congressman from Florida.

Born and raised in Brooksville, Florida, McCollum attended the University of Florida, where he was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame (the most prestigious honor a student leader could receive at UF), and served as president of Florida Blue Key. McCollum began his professional career in the United States Navy's Judge Advocate General Corps from 1969 to 1972. In 1973 McCollum entered private practice in Orlando, and immediately became involved in local politics, serving as Chairman of the Seminole County Republican Party from 1976-1980. In 1980 McCollum was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from a district including Walt Disney World and most of Orlando.
